The booklet "Dream and Realities of Children in Cambodia" was prepared and designed by Child Assistant for Mobilization and Participation (CAMP).
It is based on information gathered from workshops in four different regions in Cambodia, including Rattanakiri, Prey Veng and Battambang, as well as the Municipality of Phnom Penh. Participants are included children of different backgrounds, ethnic minority group, child laborers, child prostitutes, glue-snifters and school children.
Other information was gathered from a children's conference countrywide that had been organized by the children's committee. The Child Right Unit of the Save the Children Alliance Cambodia also participated as facilitators for the workshop, which was organized by CAMP with the financial support from Unicef and the Save the Children Alliance in Cambodia (Norway, United Kingdom, France and Australia). The workshop aimed to promote understanding of the Convention on the Right of Child and child participation through the provision of opportunities for children to express their comments regarding their personal lives.
This book was written for the purpose of making heard the voices of Cambodian children who spoke about their problems, dreams and expectations that they would like to make known to the government, national and international institutions, citizens and other children.
The ultimate goal is to contribute to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Children in September 2001. This booklet was produced in two versions, Khmer and English version.
