Child Assistance for Mobilization and Participation
(CAMP)
Children and youth are Today and Tomorrow Leaders. Children are not the problems to be solved, but they are solving problems

Introdction:

Through the project "Making Child Rights a Reality", which was implemented last year from July 2005-June 2006 CAMP found many better changes of the people and the children in the target villages where CAMP and children worked such as 31 children who drop out of school returned back to school, 6 families constructed and used the toilet, 8 child village nets were created, 8 child libraries were created, child peer educators and child village nets were built up capacity. With these great results, CAMP found the need to continue this project to be more expanding and more involving.

With the abilities, the knowledge, the experiences and the commitment of the children in the target provinces, CAMP found the need to increase and expand more child village networks and keep assist children to transfer their good initiative into the action, which can lead and bring the implementation of child rights become a reality step by step, so it also showed the importance of children and youth participation to the people.

To make the words "children and youth are not the problems to be solved but they are the problems solver" become a reality and instead of looking at children as passive victims or rights holders, children can be empowered to be part of problems solver. By working with children and youths groups/networks, CAMP has found that many children and young people wish to contribute their effort and knowledge to address social problems concerning with their living, but they lack of the opportunities, financials, technical and moral support. They will have ability to work on these tasks, if they have more opportunity, financial and technical support from donors, adults' organizations, children and youth organizations as well as others.

The children and youth understanding of child rights especially children's participation rights and how to use the child rights are the most important in promoting children's rights. However, to expanding and strengthening the practical of children in every life of people in the communities more and more effectively, we need the understanding, participating and supporting of children's rights especially children's participation rights, from adults, parents, people in the communities and local authorities.

To date, only a small number of children and young people have been given an opportunity to learn more about their rights and their roles and responsibilities for contributing to society. Children in Cambodia are still suffering from social problems and have small chance to learn about what may seriously affect their lives.

The "Making Child Rights a Reality" is a continuation of the "Making Child Rights a Reality" project funded by UNICEF. This continuation project, however, is aimed to give children and young people more opportunities to claim their rights. The children and youth will have more opportunities to learn in order to prepare themselves as good citizens in the future.
